Who is your favourite Nollywood actress of 2016?

2016 was an eventful year for the Nigerian film industry, Nollywood. Many chart-buster movies were released and we saw the best in our much-loved actresses. 

As the year runs to an end, NAIJ.com has gathered a list of our favourites, who did their best and brought their characters to life.  Now, it is time for you to tell us which of these actresses deserve to be crowned NAIJ Entertainment Favourite Actress of the year. Vote in the poll at the bottom of the post.

1. Bimbo Akintola in 93 Days

Bimbo Akintola in 93 Days

In 93 days, The talented actress played the role of late Dr. Ameyo Stella Adadevoh. the heroic doctor of First Consultants Hospital, who prevented the spread of the deadly Ebola virus disease in Nigeria.

The movie was directed by Steve Gukas, and produced by Bolanle Austen-Peters and Dotun Olakunri.

Akintola made her acting debut in 1997 in the movie Owo Blow. Her fame grew after her scene-stealing turn in the award-winning movie, Out of Bounds.

2. Adesua Etomi in The Arbitration

Who is your favourite Nollywood actress of 2016?

Adesua Etomi in The Arbitration

2015 was great for Adesua Etomi with her critically-acclaimed performances in Falling, A Soldier’s Story and Out of Luck. Charged on by her success, she was set to indelibly imprint her mark on 2016 .

In The Arbitration, she starred alongside OC Ukeje. The movie was about an office romance gone wrong.

3. Rita Dominic in '76

Who is your favourite Nollywood actress of 2016?

Rita Dominic in '76

In ’76, Rita Dominic played the role of a young O-level school leaver who fell in love with an officer from the then Middle Belt, Ramsey Nouah. However, their relationship became strained due to constant military postings.

Along the line, the soldier becomes embroiled in the aftermath of the 1976 unsuccessful military coup and assassination of General Murtala Mohammed.

The historical drama was praised by former President Olusegun Obasanjo himself, who was one of the major players in the real life event, the movie took its inspiration from.

4. Funke Akindele in Jenifa’s Diary

Who is your favourite Nollywood actress of 2016?

Funke Akindele in Jenifa's Diary

Since her career-making turn as Jenifa in the eponymous 2008 movie, Akindele’s profile has been on the rise. Leveraging on the success of the much-loved movie and its sequels, Akindele created the TV show Jenifa's Diary.

The weekly sitcom also stars Falz Tha Bahd -  who won the Multichoice Viwers Choice Award for his role on the show; radio personality Lolo as well as Fisayo Ajisola among others.

5. Kemi Lala Akindoju

Who is your favourite Nollywood actress of 2016?

Kemi Lala Akindoju

Kemi Lala Akindoju really had an eventful year in 2016, featuring in some of the year's critically-acclaimed movies: Fifty, Suru L’ere and The CEO.
