Just as expected, Maje Ayida the estranged husband of media personality Toke Makinwa has finally reacted to her book On Becoming. He has hired law firms in the UK and Nigeria to make sure Toke stops selling the book.
Maje’s lawyers – UK firm Carter-Ruck who count amongst their clients famous stars like Simon Cowell, Elton John and Chelsea FC sent Toke a ‘letter of demand’ to the earlier stated effect.
Maje also enlisted legal luminary Kemi Pinheiro (SAN) of Pinheiro LP to help his case in Nigeria. According to The Cable Lifestyle, Toke the letter of demand sent to Toke “requested legal separation from her within 6 months of their marriage in January 2014 — when it became clear that the marriage was breaking down.” Something that the book doesn’t cover.
Mrs Pinheiro also said that it was highly misleading for the book to allege that Maje did not financially contribute adequately to the marriage adding that the publication has brought public ridicule on Maje, noting that his reputation has been assaulted, injured and damaged.
Finally, Maje’s lawyers have among other things; informed Toke to retrieve the already-sold books and stop all forms of distribution, and tender a full page unreserved apology to Maje Ayida in three national dailies or else expect full legal action.
Surprisingly, the warning letter was said to have been delivered to Toke on Monday, December 23, 2016. Meanwhile, Toke has responded to the news via her Instagram account.
