Ever since popular reality show Big Brother Naija started in January, the show has been dogged by complaints from majority of Nigerians who feel the show has no moral value.
Now, two respected Catholic archbishops, Anthony Olubunmi Okogie (archbishop emeritus of Lagos) and Alaba Job (Archbishop emeritus of Ibadan) have jointly called for the ban of the reality show describing it as immoral.
The archbishops made the call when they spoke at a ceremony organized by the Catholic Artistes and Entertainers Association of Nigeria, CAEAN, in collaboration with the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria, CSN.
The clerics said it’s morally unjustifiable and called on relevant authorities to save impressionable Nigerian young ones from obscenities adding that the appropriate regulating agency to immediately yank off the programme without any further delay.
According to different sources, Archbishop Job said: “Apart from the mouth-watering profit the sponsoring companies stand to gain, the TV reality show has no single positive impact on the Nigerian citizens, neither does it have on its dwindling economy.”
