- Nigerian movies have starched attracting positive reactions from all around the world
- We now have our own versions of popular American movies
- Like this Nigerian version of Michael Jackson's Thriller
It’s been eight years since music icon Michael Jackson died and his fans all over the world have found several ways to pay homage to him. Some have made memorabilia; others have given performances and in the case of some movie makers in Northern Nigeria, made movies featuring his popular dance steps.
Recently a clip made the rounds on twitter showing a clip from a Hausa film and what struck NAIJ.com as peculiar was when we noticed that the actors were dancing to a localized and reworked version of Michael Jackson’s hit song Thriller.
The original version of the song and its video released on December 2, 1983 was voted as the most influential pop music video of all time. It also proved to have a profound effect on popular culture and Guinness World Records listed it in 2006 as the most successful music video of all time, selling over nine million copies.
With all the records Thriller broke during its time, perhaps the filmmakers wanted some of that ‘magic’ to rub off on their film.
