It is no longer news that top Nollywood actress Mercy Aigbe’s marriage of seven years to her husband, Olanrewaju Gentry has crashed. The two parted ways following a domestic violence reportedly filed by the actress against her estranged husband.
Following the beating Mercy Aigbe received from Mr Gentry, she immediately moved out of her matrimonial home with her children and got her estranged husband jailed for seven days in Kirikiri prison when families were able to meet up with the bail fee of N500,000.
NAIJ.com gathered that Mr Gentry’s trial which is meant to have commenced after his release from Kirikiri prison has been halted due to Mercy Aigbe’s alleged absence from the country.
According to The Nation, Olanrewaju Gentry appeared in court on Wednesday, May 24, in the company of his family members but was reported to have been sent back due to his wife’s absence.
It was further reported that officials of the Lagos State Domestic Sexual Violence Response Team (DSVRT) and Gentry met with the trial Chief Magistrate Folakemi Davies-Abegunde behind closed door in her chamber and agreed on Wednesday, June 7 for the estranged couple to appear before the court.
When he stepped out of the court into the lobby, same family members and associates stepped out with him and ensured that nobody come close to him.
The chief magistrate disclosed the case was adjourned so that Gentry can come with proof on why he should not be ‘restrained permanently’ from coming close to his wife, Mercy Aigbe and child.
